Supporting the local biz.

Not bad for a secondary protein. Accessible price. Reasonable amount of protein per serving (25g). And the taste is pretty good.

EZOBOLIC (エゾボリック) is a Hokkaido-based protein brand that’s been slowly making a name for itself. They focus on whey protein (mostly WPC, with some WPI options) and put a lot of effort into flavor variety. Think things like Hokkaido melon, Uji matcha, or even a pretty refreshing choco-mint that uses real Japanese mint instead of just artificial flavoring. It’s clear they care about taste — supposedly they spent years experimenting with samples before locking in their current lineup.

In terms of quality, it’s domestically produced and generally smooth to mix. I haven’t had much issue with foaming or clumping. Nutritionally it’s in the standard ballpark — about 25g protein per serving, which is fine for everyday use. Pricewise, it’s reasonable too: around ¥4,450 for 1kg or ¥8,980 for 3kg, so not rock-bottom cheap, but fair given the quality and flavor options.

The main trade-off is that most flavors are WPC, so if you’re sensitive to lactose or want maximum protein per gram, the isolate (WPI) versions might be better — though they don’t offer as many flavor options in that line. And like with a lot of smaller brands, you might notice slight differences in taste or texture depending on the batch.

Overall, I’d call EZOBOLIC a solid “secondary” protein — not necessarily the bulk everyday tub I rely on, but great when I want some variety in flavor or just to support a local Japanese brand doing its own thing.
